What Are Braces? Get to Know More
Braces apply steady, gentle pressure to the teeth, gradually moving them into their correct positions. Throughout your orthodontic care, you can come across expensive or cheap or affordable braces. The mounted brackets on the teeth and the main binding archwire are the two main components of your braces. The bracket is a metal or ceramic piece that is attached to each tooth. Your "ideal" bite is reflected in the archwire. To put it another way, it represents how we expect you to approach your care.
What are the Benefits of Braces?
Braces can be used to treat a variety of dental problems. The orthodontist would be able to determine the best course of action for your specific problem after evaluating you.
Crowding of the teeth is the most common explanation for braces. It's difficult to clean between the teeth when your teeth are smushed together, and it affects the appearance of the smile. Excess space between the teeth may also be a problem.
Some people need braces because they have a bite problem. When you close the mouth, your teeth are not correctly aligned, resulting in an open bite. Having a deep bite means that the lower front teeth are pushed against the palate. When the lower front teeth comes in front of the upper teeth it is known as underbite. Braces will help with both of these issues.
Braces of Different Types
Some orthodontists also sell transparent ceramic braces and Invisalign aligners in addition to metal braces. There is no one-size-fits-all solution for anyone, so get tested and speak to an orthodontist about which treatment option suits you.
Metal braces
• They are permanently attached to your teeth and can only be removed by the orthodontist at the end of treatment
• An orthodontist stiffens the wires in the therapy to help straighten the teeth.
• There are certain food and drink restrictions for this treatment
• Can be removed to chew, wash, and floss your teeth
• Treatment requires a new set of aligners every two weeks as your teeth change into proper alignment
• Invisalign can correct both basic and complex alignment problems.
Clear Braces
• These braces are made of porcelain, ceramic, or a clear plastic, rendering them almost invisible to anyone. The majority of people would be unaware that you are wearing braces.
• The orthodontist stiffens the wires in the therapy to help straighten the teeth.
• You must avoid certain food and drink during the treatment course to stay away from food stains.
Ceramic Braces
• The ceramic braces use a combination of clear brackets and wires to make it less visible.
• Conventional braces have the same benefits as ceramic braces, but they are less noticeable.
• For the ceramic braces the stain from food and drink is a major problem.
